About MOTS-c
MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA, type c) is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded by a short open reading frame (sORF) within the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal RNA gene. Discovered in 2015, MOTS-c is translated in the mitochondrial matrix using the standard mitochondrial genetic code and subsequently exported to the cytoplasm and nucleus. It represents one of the first described mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs) — a class of small regulatory peptides encoded entirely within the mitochondrial genome.
Research interest in MOTS-c has focused on its translocation from the cytoplasm to the nucleus in response to metabolic stress, where it has been shown to interact with nuclear transcription factor binding sites including ARE (antioxidant response elements). In vitro studies have characterized its effects on AMPK pathway activation, glucose metabolism regulation in skeletal muscle cell models, and oxidative stress response pathway modulation. MOTS-c is considered an important research tool for studying mitochondrial-nuclear communication mechanisms. For laboratory research use only.

Lyophilized Research Peptides
This product is supplied in lyophilized (freeze-dried) form — a process that extends shelf life and preserves peptide purity and structural integrity during storage. No fillers, excipients, or preservatives are used in the lyophilization process. The lyophilized powder should be reconstituted with an appropriate research-grade solvent in a controlled laboratory environment prior to use in in vitro or preclinical assay systems.
