About Thymosin Alpha-1
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1; thymalfasin) is a naturally occurring 28-amino acid peptide originally isolated from thymosin Fraction 5 — a partially purified calf thymus extract — by Allan Goldstein's research group. The N-terminus is acetylated (Ac-Ser) and the C-terminus is a free carboxylate (Asn-OH), with an acidic character resulting from the predominance of aspartic and glutamic acid residues. Thymosin Alpha-1 is the most extensively studied member of the thymosin alpha peptide family and is believed to be the primary immunologically active component of thymosin Fraction 5.
Research applications of thymosin alpha-1 include investigation of its dendritic cell maturation effects in ex vivo cell culture systems, characterization of TLR signaling modulation (particularly TLR2 and TLR9 pathway effects), NK cell activity enhancement studies in peripheral blood mononuclear cell models, and examination of PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint pathway interactions in tumor cell co-culture models. The compound is widely used as a reference immunomodulatory peptide in innate and adaptive immune response research and is provided for qualified laboratory research use only.
